Why do people hate people?

So as I’m trying to crank out the three term papers I have due this week, a thought crossed my mind: I don’t understand racism.

Try as I might and trust me, I try, I can’t comprehend it. Whether I agree with it or not, I like to understand people’s points of view; that’s just my personality. However, when it comes to racism, I just can’t wrap my head around it.

We hear of discrimination, prejudice, and other heinous acts that result from racism but my entire life thus far I have never heard someone provide a true reason to be racist. All I ever hear is how they feel as a result of their racist points of view, but never an explanation for why. I’d like a meet a true racist one day, and I want them to tell me exactly why they hate people of my skin color. Truly, I want to know because I don’t understand. If anyone should be racist in America, it should be the oppressed. My people have been through hell and back at the hands of White America and we continue to catch hell, but when I see a White person, I don’t feel the hatred some of them love to feel for me. So, why? Even if when it’s wrong, other groups of have reasons why they discriminate: critics of the LGBT movement, etc. So what’s the reasoning of a racist because simply saying “I hate Black people,” does not suffice.

From my experience, when a person disperses the energy to hate another for seemingly no reason, it’s because deep down they see in the object of their hate the qualities they lack in themselves. When you have no legit or philosophical reasoning behind your dislike/hate of an individual the only thing left to conclude is that you just don’t like them because you view them as a threat. Insecurity. When you spend so much time trying to strip one of their qualities, skills, and characteristics that make you feel inadequate, that’s the height of insecurity. When you have to break someone down until you’re satisfied and can feel better about yourself, that’s insecurity. However, I may be wrong; that’s why I’m asking.

All I know is, you all brought us here from Africa as slaves, we didn’t ask to be brought over to the Americas. But now you hate our existence, who’s fault is that?…

The best part of having a relationship is getting to call the person or lay down next to them and tell them all the crazy things that happened to you all day long, and in the end that’s what it’s about, kids. It’s not about the sex, it’s not about the money that they give you or whatever. It’s not about how good-looking they are, it’s about, can they listen to you talk for hours and hours and hours about stupid shit that doesn’t matter.

Sanity.

I had to deactivate my Twitter and Facebook. You can’t say anything on those social networks without people being on your ass about it. Since when did I owe you an explanation for anything I say? This must be how celebrities feel, I need a full blown explanation for Tweeting anything I say? Shit.

Had to take a breather from the Twitter/FB thing before I go crazy dealing with folk.
